I’m sort of restless again, tonight. It happens to be one of those nights when I can’t stop thinking of certain things. Reincarnation is what is on my mind now. This isn’t a first, and I’m very certain it won’t be the last.

I was having a bath when the thought of the Oba of Bini and the Ooni of Ife attacked me. For reasons unknown to me, I’ve always been attracted to their respective palaces, though I’ve never been privileged to visit any. I’m almost convinced I have some kind of connection to the two royal homes. It feels like I have history with them. And it could just be my love for their rich history that is giving me ideas.

My train of thought took me from trying to understand my obsession with the Bini and Ife palace, to reincarnation.

I very much believe in reincarnation, though my religion and faith doesn’t believe there’s such a thing as that. I guess it’s cos it contradicts the “theory” of judgement, heaven, and hell. As a result, I don’t get to really talk about it. Though the topic interests me very much, I try not to dwell much on it, whenever it sneaks into my head, cos who will I have the conversation with?

I believe life is a cycle, that we die and return through a different body, without having to await judgment. Now, I’m not limiting reincarnation to Iyabode and Babatunde/Babajide. This includes people who die and are reborn into families that were kind to them in their previous life. It includes people who are reborn into any body of their choice, without necessarily having history in their past life with their new family.

While there may be no physical resemblance to our last being, there is usually a resemblance of character, I believe. In some cases, some return as what they couldn’t be in their previous life but swore to be in their next —when they were in their previous life (I hope this isn’t confusing). Our lifestyle in the past and the things we swore to be, influences how we act and what we become in our present life. While these aren’t facts but my assumptions based on stories and observations, I believe them to be true.

For instance, I think I was betrayed in my last life by someone or people very close to me, people I trusted, most likely through food poisoning. This is because of how distrustful I’ve always been of almost everyone but my mom—News flash: I’m more relaxed now. Hurray!— I’m talking of before I had enough sense to start making decisions. As a very little child, I only ate my mother’s food, I never accepted food from any other person, whether packaged or cooked, whether from family or friend. I only agreed to eat or drink, after my mother assures me it’s safe, by tasting it first, in my presence. I remember cos I, surprisingly, still have some memories of those times, and cos my mom told and still tells me of how some, accused her of instructing me to not accept food from them, and how she’d ask them how a baby like me would understand that even if she gave such instruction.

I feel whatever happened in my past life has influenced how much I expect from people. I don’t, and have never expected a lot from people, so that when they disappoint me, I won’t be caught off guard and be destabilized. No matter how much I trust a person, I always leave a very tiny room for disappointment.

Again, this is just me dropping one of the many things that fill my head. No research done, just me pouring my thoughts on you. And I’d like for you to flood me with your thoughts, in return, like I’m your Lekki.

What do you think of reincarnation? A myth or a reality? Please, drop your thoughts in the comment section.

First thanks be to God that we have an article.

Secondly on reincarnation I don’t believe in it because my faith doesn’t, but reading this article I might choose to say I was betrayed by my country in my previous life thats why I am trying to fight against it now.

    Nice article by the way

Thank you, Samuel. Keep up the fight, don’t be betrayed a second time.

Meanwhile, here’s a lil unsolicited advice; do not let sentiments control your decisions. Do not let sentiments hold you back from questioning things. Keep an open mind.

Thanks for letting me know how you feel about the subject.

Reincarnation is something I’ve always believed cause I don’t think we have an infinite number of people coming into this world and then just getting judged immediately they die. I believe it’s possible we enter other bodies and start another life once again. A recycling of some sort.

I don’t know if it’s proper to say I do believe in reincarnation as the theory contradicts my religious belief. I’ve watched and heard people give a lot of evidence, the Igbo and Yorùbá cosmology infact amaze me. So, yes, I’m on the fence.
    Nice article, as always!

I know right. Sitting on the fence in matters like this, is very convenient.

      Thanks, Adesewa.

This is a very deep thing to talk about. But I believe so much in transmigration and there are so many hidden facts about it. But to me, after death, we come back as a better version. The world continues and recycle souls.

    Babe, you’re a soul sister indeed 😩.
I’m actually open minded, I’m not someone exactly inclined to religious beliefs or whatever other beliefs, not that I don’t believe in them but I can’t deny my very curious and crazy mind sometimes and just like you they’re so many topics I just leave to my thoughts like this one 😂. Now back to reincarnation, I’ve also had alot of stories even the one told by my parents or grand parents and most times, they’re so fascinating therefore they never leave my mind, I believe in the possibility of reincarnation and more often than not, an action or event takes place in my life and I hear myself voicing out, ” I wanna visit here again or meet this person again or do this or that again in my next life” . I refer to it alot of times. Another interesting fact is sometimes I reconnect it to dejavus 😂 or the reason why you meet someone today and it feels like you’ve known them for ages, maybe it wasn’t that simple or so much of a coincidence 😂 and just like you were able to relate your ‘trust issues’ in the past to having something to do with reincarnation, it’s the same for me and some of the happenings in my life or visiting a place and feeling this deep connection.
An interesting article you got here by the way, I’d save this one, it’s good to know you’re in sync 😂🤗

😂 Thank you, dearest soul sister. I felt the emotions in your comment. And about deja vu, I agree with you. Never thought of it, maybe it really isn’t that simple.

I love how you’re open minded. Please, stay that way.

Thanks for flooding me with your thoughts.

        Reincarnation?
        Hmmmmmph
I think this is one of the many questions, we may never have answers to, but I strongly believe that reincarnation happens, and is still happening, in this present day…

    I somewhat believe in re-incarnation.
Infact, sometimes, I feel I’ve lived before. Many things from the past, sometimes from the ancients, I relate with them with so much ease that even marvels me sometimes.
Don’t know how it works and I hold strongly to the Christian belief in the uniqueness of the human person, but there’s something about re-incarnation that’s hard to just throw away like that.

I think, it wouldn’t be fair to let someone come again in another humans body, every human should be given the same opportunity to live a fresh life and make their own mistakes. People who reincarnate are believed to have not fulfilled their mission here on earth before dying , so they come back to do that.

Hmm. Another angle. I don’t think this is always the case.
This is quite complex and may be hard to explain without causing further complexity. So let’s just leave it as one of life mysteries.

      Thanks for sharing your opinion❤.

Reincarnation is a myth. There are arguments which debunk it. Unfortunately they enter the domain of philosophy (metaphysics) since we are talking about an immaterial subject. So it might be a lil complicated to understand.
Every body dies but it’s memories and knowledge don’t die. It is the soul which knows things primarily, not the body. So when it leaves this body, its knowledge remains in its entirety in the afterlife (on this rests the whole doctrine of hell and heaven, because it is the knowledge of the acts done while in life, which the soul carries with it that causes it either happiness in heaven or suffering in hell). So, it’s only logical that one soul will have one body assigned to it because every person comes into this world as a blank sheet having no previous knowledge. If reincarnation were possible, we should have a remembrance from time to time of the other worldly things which the soul encountered after leaving one body.
If reincarnation were true, we would still know each other perfectly in the so called reincarnated life. We would know things the same way we have known them in our previous life cos the memories remain in the soul. Hence, this whole talk of dejavu would be useless since dejavu implies a feeling of connection to somebody or something but not being able to place it. Thirdly, reincarnation would mean that man has the power to create and recreate himself. It simply means that man has power over the afterlife, since you can choose where next you go to. It simply doesn’t make sense.
I admit that there are things unclear to the human intellect, but it might not be as mysterious as we think. Now, it’s a fact that the devil can possess a body and move it for as long as he wishes in order to achieve his goals on earth, after all this is his playground and he has roamed this earth for far too long as to understand every possible trick devisable against limited humans. So those stories of people dying and seen somewhere else are simply proofs of diabolical powers that exist in the world. The devil can create powerful illusions to mesmerise the human intellect (after all we are mere mortals). The risk of believing reincarnation is that we fall victims easily to such diabolical illusions and get deceived by people who claim to have all sort of powers. (Necromancers, tarot card practitioners, table shakers, etc as we see in many religions of the world that believe reincarnation).

When it comes to reincarnation there are three types of people; those who don’t believe, those who do believe and those who know.
